Boats typically depart from the Cruz Bay ferry dock in St. John and the Red Hook Dock in St. Thomas. Each boat charter company may have it's own pick up location, but the drop off is often of your choosing.

You will need to bring a passport if you'd like to visit the British Virgin Islands. You're basically visiting another country, so you will need a valid passport. If you're planning to stay within St. John or St. Thomas, then you don't need to bring it.

While seasickness can certainly happen, we recommend you bring medication to help combat it. A lot of boats are stabilized to ensure smoother sailing which can help, but it's best to be prepared. Staying hydrated and avoiding drinking too much alcohol can also help avoid sea sickness.

A private boat charter means you specifically rent it out for just you and your group and it generally offers a customized itinerary to your liking. The only people on a private boat charter are the ones that you bring along as well as the crew and captain. On a shared charter, it's more like an excursion where you reserve your seat on the boat. Several other people may accompany you, and it's more affordable, but the schedule is typically not customizable.

Each charter operator has its own specific policy, so cancellations and refunds will vary according to their own guidelines. Please contact us for specific questions if you have them.
